On arrival to New Zealand, we will arrange for free airport pick up or bus pickup (if travelling to regions from an international airport) for domestic or international students doing courses of six months or longer (please inform us of the flight details at least 72 hours beforehand).
The legal age for drinking alcohol in New Zealand is 18 years. If you are under 18 you are not allowed to enter a bar or nightclub or purchase alcohol.
Even if you are over 18, you may be asked to show photographic identification before you enter a bar or club or when buying alcohol at retail outlets.
Students are expected to attend all of their scheduled classes, and should notify FutureCOL staff if they are unable to attend because of illness, or any other reason. In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, and as a requirement for student visas, students’ attendance will be monitored.
Students are expected to respect other people and property. Students whose behaviour is detrimental to the school or to other students, may, after warnings, be asked to leave the school.

Immigration New Zealand requires international students to have access to NZ$15,000 per year to cover their costs during their stay in New Zealand

FutureCOL goes the extra mile in addressing the concerns and needs of our students. We are mindful of the worries and concerns that parents have for their children, especially their daughters, when they begin a new chapter in their lives by studying in New Zealand.
For many, this is the first time they are away from home. As such, we make special arrangements and provide accommodation for female students that is both safe and secure. The accommodation is provided on a first-come-first-served basis.
International students are required to have a valid student visa during their stay in New Zealand. Once you have received an Offer of Place from FutureCOL and you have paid your tuition fees, you should apply for a student visa from your nearest Immigration New Zealand office (contact the New Zealand Embassy or High Commission for details).

The sale of cigarettes and tobacco products to persons under 18 years of age is prohibited in New Zealand. Smoking is not permitted in most public buildings, including cafes, restaurants and workplaces, or on public transport. The College of Future Learning NZ (FutureCOL) has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Copies of the Code are available on request from FutureCOL or from the NZQA website.
Each campus is located in the city centre and has well-equipped classrooms, a student lounge, kitchen, library and computer lab.
Wi-fi: Each campus is Wi-Fi enabled, and Diploma students studying business or computing are provided with a current model notebook/netbook PC, which is preloaded with the latest Microsoft software packages.
Café Area: Each campus has a student equipped area with a microwave oven and hot water, and a seating area where students can consume their food and drinks.
Student Café: The Hastings campus has a student café, where students can buy discounted food and drinks. The cafe is operated as a commercial café with foods produced by hospitality cookery students, and is also used as a training facility for our hospitality students.
Student Lounge: The student lounge is available for students to use before class, during breaks and after school.

The New Zealand Government requires that all New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) registered Private Training Establishments must protect all student fees paid to them in advance. FutureCOL is registered for Fee Protect through The Public Trust, which has an unsecured capital guarantee from the New Zealand Government. For further information visit www.feeprotect.co.nz
This means that in the unlikely event that FutureCOL unable to complete the programme in which you are enrolled (this could be because of closure, insolvency, loss of NZQA accreditation or programme withdrawal), the remainder of your student fees (including accommodation and living expenses if paid in advance) will be protected. You will have the choice to receive any remaining fees back or have them paid directly to an alternative education provider.
- Student will receive a full refund (minus the registration cost $250) if their visa is not granted before the commencement of their programme.
- Student will receive a 75% refund of the total fees if the student withdraws within the first 10 working days of the programme commencement.
- Student is not eligible for a refund after the 11th working day after the programme commencement.
- Student is not eligible for a refund if their visa extension is not granted (during the programme).
Students who withdraw before the programme commences will also be subject to the above criteria. That is, they will be entitled to a refund less any amounts allowed to be retained as noted in (i), (iii), or (iv) above.
- Students who have already received their laptop (which is included in their resource fee), will not receive a full refund of their resource fee if they subsequently withdraw from their programme, and will be able to keep the laptop.
- If a student is not granted a student visa or an extension of their student visa a full refund of their unused fees will be made.
- Refunds will be processed within 30 days of withdrawal, will be paid in New Zealand dollars, and will go to the person or organisation that paid the fees, not necessarily the student.
- An international student who obtains permanent residency, while studying on a student visa, will not receive a refund of fees for the remainder of the academic year in which residency is granted. However, they will be treated as a New Zealand permanent resident for the following years and will be subject to domestic fees for the remainder of their study at NTI, CIB or NIE.
- If the student is expelled from the programme, it is unlikely that any refund will be made.
- These regulations may be varied in exceptional circumstances that are beyond the control of the student (such as medical or compassionate circumstances). Variation is at the discretion of the CEO.
- Immigration New Zealand will be informed of all information which affects the status of a student permit or visa.
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz.
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz.
International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand.
FutureCOL can arrange students’ insurance through OrbitProtect (for more information go to www.orbitprotect.co.nz). Alternatively, students can arrange their own insurance, and they must provide proof of suitable insurance at the time of enrolment. - Applicants are required to provide true and complete information when filling out the application form and attaching documents. Provision of false information may result in the termination of the application / enrolment.
- Applicants must review the details of the programme they applying for, to make sure that this is the programme they want to study, and should consider whether the programme will assist them in achieving their career goals and intentions.
- A completed FutureCOL Application Form forms the basis of a contract between the applicant and FutureCOL.
- If entry criteria are met, applicants will receive an Offer of Place letter, which will give advice on programme fees (tuition and resource fees), insurance and date and methods of payment.
- To accept an Offer of Place, applicants must sign one copy of the Offer of Place, and return it, with full payment of all fees, by the due date.
- Upon receipt of fees, applicants will be sent a receipt, which they can use to apply for a student visa. Note that the fees will be fully refunded if the applicant is not granted a student visa.
Students are required to notify FutureCOL immediately if their address or contact details change.
During orientation, students are required to sign a policy which defines the responsibilities of students when using the computing and information technology facilities provided by FutureCOL.
During orientation, students are asked to sign an agreement that they will agree to:
- follow FutureCOL Policies and Procedures.
- attend classes punctually, and notify FutureCOL staff if unable to attend.
be honest in dealings with the other learners/students and with Tutors.
- try hard to complete all assignments on time and to work on them to the best of their ability.
- ask for 1 to 1 sessions when needed.
- try to be co-operative and sensitive to the needs of the Tutors and other participants.
From time to time FutureCOL posts photographs, video records and written/spoken testimonials of students on the FutureCOL website, prospectus, newsletters and other mass media communication. It is FutureCOL’s policy that any published items are positive depictions of students. Students’ consent is sought before their information is used.
Driving a car in regional areas of New Zealand is a viable form of transport. It is essential the car students ‘purchase has certification (Warrant of Fitness and Registration) for road worthiness and the driver holds a Drivers’ License. Strict road rules exist drivers must adhere to otherwise expensive fines and loss of license can occur. Having 3rd Party Insurance is security for the driver as they are liable for other party expenses should there be an accident.
